Aim of the working group
Bee record databases are a key resource for compiling knowledge of wild bee species and analyzing their conservation status. However, information is dispersed in many local databases, rarely in public access. Two global databases exist: GBIF with ~6 million records (73% of which are in Europe and North America), and DiscoverLife. Other key regional databases, such as AtlasHymenoptera and Zobodat in Europe, also include considerable information. None of these databases are currently interconnected.
The challenge is therefore to build a global database, or an interconnection between existing databases of bee records, in order to support quality assessments and reassessments.
